Any Other Modeling tool ?

Feb 10, 2010 at 5:14 PM

Hi Friends,

I am currently working on NModel where we write the model Programs in C# and generate Test Sequences.

My Research area is  ModelBasedTesting and am keen to explore any other open source tools where we generate

test cases or sequences from the model ,which could be a code or a Finite State Machine or any other form of Input.

Kindly let me know any other tools which are available.

Thanks in advance.

Hi!

A good place to start is to have a look at http://www.cs.waikato.ac.nz/~marku/mbt/

Some related tools, that are not mentioned above are:

  • GAST: http://www.cs.ru.nl/~pieter/gentest/gentest.html
  • GUITAR: http://guitar.sourceforge.net/
  • MOTES: http://www.elvior.ee/motes/general (not open source but the test generator Eclipse plugin is free but has dependencies on third party tools)
  • org.tigris.mbt: http://mbt.tigris.org/
  • ...

There probably are many more around so feel free to mention them in this thread if you find them and consider relevant.

It should be noted that there are similar discussions going on in other places too, e.g. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/620188/recommended-model-based-testing-tools

If you use Python, there is PyModel at http://staff.washington.edu/jon/pymodel/www/

It is influenced by NModel, but is not a translation or re-implementation.

Hi,

I am looking at tools which take state diagrams or activity diagrams as input and generate test cases.I looked into Spec Explorer and learnt that it requires a model program as input.

I felt it is similiar to NModel. Can some one help me with any other different kind of tools as required by me?Thanks in advance.

Hi Sujithra,

A new NModel utility - GML.exe, will be included in a new release of NModel this summer (it is already in the source-code cs-50622).

The GML utility enables the use of a graphical state model editor (yED) by auto-generation of a C# model skeleton from yED’s exported graphml files.
